English I Overview:

Ninth grade English students will study writing and grammar. Students will study fiction and non-fiction works. The students will learn to analyze information gleaned from works and relate it to personal experiences. Student will learn to do comparison /contrast works. Students will write reports using print and non-print sources. Students will learn to research authors and historical relevance to works in Fiction and non-fiction. Students will also journal thoughts daily.

 

General Objectives: The students will be able to do the following:

Read, Analyze, and comprehend a variety of literary texts (novels, poetry, short stories and drama).

Use vocabulary strategies to read fluently.

Use all forms of grammar correctly written works.

Learn to write to captivate all forms of audiences.

Access and use information from many different sources.

 

Course of study:

Students will incorporate reading and writing skills.

Students will receive a brief overview of both MLA and APA writing styles.


English II Overview:

Sociology Overview:

 Students will study the meaning of Sociology by examining Social life. They will learn about case studies. They will learn about becoming culturally diverse and how to become adaptive in society. Students will learn about societal deviants. Adults and adolescent behaviors that are socially acceptable and those that are considered Taboo.

 

General Objectives:

  Students will be expected to identify social behaviors that are acceptable and those which are not.

Students will be expected to read and write case studies by presenting cases in class.

 Students will draw and ecomap of their family unit.

Students will learn to identify and accept that Gender, religion and socioeconomic status play roles in how we achieve goals and how we perceive others.

 

Course of study:

Sociology is the study of human relationships. Students will study those relationships and how we are perceived by others.
